Welcome to Kathleen Area Historical Society! Beginnings of "KAHS” About 1988, 3 Kathleen born and bred women were responsible for the idea of establishing a non-profit organization to preserve the area’s dwindling history and heritage. Sign at the front gates Most of the old houses and barns had been destroyed by this time in one manner or another.
Pictures of many families and points of interest have been lost forever. Tools that our farmers used to till the land had rusted away. These 3 women were Becky Hardaker Elliott, Hilda Gavin Battle, and Doris Stalvey Glisson (great-granddaughter of Kathleen founder, Henry Prine). For about 3 years, these ladies talked and tried to get an organization started. Betty Ann Williams, a former Kathleen area school teacher at Winston, Griffin and Kathleen, joined forces with these 3 determined ladies and a while later, on February 19, 1991, the non-profit Kathleen Area Historical Society was formed. |
